The Belun Ring is a small, comfortable medical wearable device that allows you to easily conduct a comprehensive sleep evaluation from the comfort of your own home. This system is intended specifically for home sleep testing and remote monitoring. The system includes the Ring itself, which is designed to be worn on your index finger, and a Cradle used for charging and data transfer.
The Ring's purpose is to gather crucial physiological information throughout the night to help your doctor assess potential sleep-related breathing problems, commonly referred to as sleep apnea. It continuously monitors several important body signals, including your blood oxygen levels and your heart activity (pulse rate).
The system tracks vital signs for assessment and diagnosis of sleep disorders, particularly moderate to severe sleep-related breathing problems. It records information about your sleep architecture, differentiating periods of wakefulness, and different sleep stages including deep dream (REM) sleep.
Critically, the Ring measures the balance of your bodyโs stress response system throughout the night (referred to as the Autonomic Nervous System response). This monitoring uses color-coded visual bars in the resulting report: blue bars represent rest (parasympathetic activity) and red bars represent activity or stress (sympathetic activity). The system also tracks movement/activity level.
Conducting the test is very simple. Before bed, you charge the device, then slide the small Ring onto your index finger all the way until it touches your palm, ensuring the sensor symbol is facing up. Wearing the Ring automatically activates the recording. Once activated, the Ring will vibrate twice, and its sensor area will emit a red light, confirming that the collection of your sleep data has begun. It is recommended that you wear the Ring and sleep on the bed for more than five hours.
When you wake up, the test is ended by putting the Ring back into its Charging Cradle. The collected information is then automatically transferred from the Ring to the Cradle (a process that takes about three to five minutes) for later review by your doctor.
The data captured by the Ring provides your doctor with a detailed report on your sleep quality and breathing patterns. The software analyzes the information using an artificial intelligence algorithm to calculate key indicators, such as the Apnea-Hypopnea Index and the Oxygen Desaturation Index. These indicators determine if breathing interruptions are occurring during sleep and, if so, classify their severity (Normal, Mild, Moderate, or Severe).
Because the Ring measures the body's stress response, heart patterns (including Arrhythmia Ratio), and sleep stages, the analysis can also point toward other potential issues. For instance, the data can flag suspected conditions such as heart rhythm irregularities (arrhythmia) or patterns associated with stress and anxiety. This objective, comprehensive information helps your healthcare professional accurately diagnose a sleep disorder, determine its severity, and decide if specialized follow-up care (like referral to a cardiologist or psychiatrist/clinical psychologist) is needed.
