โ Back to Sleep Health homeThe O2 SleepWell Laboratory, in collaboration with the O2 Lung Centre, provides a valuable service where a trained sleep technologist offers in-person assistance for setting up home-based diagnostic sleep studies and ensuring comfort with therapy equipment. This expert service brings the assurance of professional setup directly to your preferred location, whether it is your home, a hospital, or a hotel. This approach is designed to maximize the success and accuracy of your sleep evaluation while prioritizing your convenience.
This service involves a personalized visit from an O2 SleepWell technologist to perform the expert hook-up of your chosen home sleep monitoring device, such as the Nox T3s, WatchPAT ONE, or Somfit Pro. For systems like the Nox T3s, this involves carefully attaching belts and sensors to record information like breathing effort, audio, and oxygen levels. For simpler, fully disposable devices like the WatchPAT ONE, the technologist ensures the wrist device, finger probe, and chest sensor (if used) are applied correctly and securely. For systems like the Somfit Pro, the technologist ensures the device and electrode (worn on the forehead) and the band are correctly fitted for accurate data collection.
A crucial component of this visit is mask fitting and coaching. If Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy is needed, the technologist conducts a session, similar to a "Positive Airway Pressure Nap" (PAP-NAP), to fit you with the most comfortable mask (nasal, nasal pillow, or oronasal) and familiarize you with the feeling of the pressurized air.
Using a sleep technologist from O2 SleepWell Laboratory for setup ensures high-quality data acquisition and improved treatment adherence.
Ensuring Accuracy: Many advanced home diagnostic tests rely on meticulous placement of sensors, belts, or electrodes (like those used with Nox T3s or Somfit Pro). By having a trained professional perform the hook-up and verification, the risk of technical failures due to incorrect attachment is significantly minimized. This ensures the resulting data is reliable for your doctor's diagnosis.
Maximizing Comfort for Therapy: The personalized mask fitting service (PAP-NAP) is effective in enhancing patient acceptance and adherence to CPAP therapy. Working one-on-one with a technologist allows you to overcome feelings like claustrophobia or anxiety and ensures the selection of the most comfortable mask interface (like nasal or nasal pillow masks, which are preferred over oronasal masks).
In-person assistance from a sleep technologist is highly recommended for several patient populations to ensure diagnostic success and successful treatment initiation:
Elderly Patients: Elderly patients often require dedicated, on-site assistance from a sleep technician for the successful setup of home sleep apnea testing equipment, as well as ongoing instruction and support for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) mask fitting and device management.
Patients with Difficulty Using CPAP: Those diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who are prescribed CPAP therapy benefit greatly from the PAP-NAP service. This assistance addresses common barriers to adherence, such as mask discomfort, claustrophobia, anxiety, or air pressure-related side effects.
Patients with Complex Setups: Individuals utilizing more complex home diagnostic recorders, like the Nox T3s or Somfit Pro, need expert guidance because these devices require careful placement of multiple components to collect detailed physiological data accurately.
Patients with Access or Mobility Challenges: Individuals who find it difficult or impractical to travel to a traditional sleep lab for setup, often due to access limitations, appreciate the convenience of having the setup performed in their home, a hospital, or a hotel.
