The O2 SleepWell Laboratory, hosted in partnership with O2 Lung Centre and Cura Day Surgery, offers a professional overnight sleep study, also known as a Polysomnography. This assessment utilizes advanced recording systems, such as the Nox A1s device, to monitor your sleep health in detail. The entire process is designed for monitored rest, typically lasting 8โ12 hours.
This is a comprehensive, overnight, in-lab sleep assessment. It employs specialized monitoring equipment to record key physiological signals throughout the night, aiding in the investigation and assessment of various sleep issues.
The facility prioritizes your comfort and privacy. You will stay in a calming, purpose-built environment featuring private rooms equipped with private toilets, fostering a tranquil and restorative experience. The service is led by a Sleep Physician and staffed by trained sleep technologists who provide monitoring and guidance throughout the night.
How is it different from a home sleep study?
Unlike basic home tests that mainly screen for common breathing problems, the in-lab study offers full monitoring capability and superior sensitivity. A critical advantage is the presence of a technologist who monitors the recording in real-time, allowing for immediate troubleshooting and real-time sensor adjustments to guarantee highly accurate data. Furthermore, the controlled environment minimizes external disturbances, ensuring cleaner, more reliable results.
This detailed test can diagnose complex conditions beyond basic breathing pauses, such as obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. It is specifically equipped to detect non-respiratory sleep disorders and milder breathing problems, including narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, parasomnias (like sleepwalking), and issues related to insomnia.
The study requires an overnight stay in a private room. Upon arrival, a sleep technologist will apply necessary sensors and wires to your body with minimal discomfort. These instruments, which connect to the body-worn Nox A1s recorder, track vital information while you sleep. The next morning, the sensors are removed, and you are ready to go about your day.
The specialized equipment captures detailed and accurate data on multiple body functions simultaneously. This comprehensive recording includes tracking breathing patterns (chest movement and airflow), oxygen and heart function, and brain waves and muscle activity (to detect abnormal sleep stages or movements). Analyzing this high-quality data allows your doctor to make an accurate diagnosis, resulting in a specialized review and personalized recommendations for effective treatment.
